Executive Labor Efficiency

sl5_smallThe efficiency of executive labor in 2016 is about the same as it was in 1885. Leaders, in this respect, are laggards. That can’t be good for people and companies.

Business leaders have spent the last 130 years getting workers to conform to ever-more precise standards for performing work. As a result, employees’ work is orders of magnitude better today than it was in 1885.

Shouldn’t senior leaders also conform to ever-more precise standards for their work as well? After all, the remaining inefficiency of workers, which is significant (due to waste, unevenness, and unreasonableness), is driven by the enormous inefficiency of leadership.

In terms of both efficiency and effectiveness, there is massive opportunity for “Scientific Leadership,” especially for today’s fast-moving businesses and industries, or those facing disruption.

I have created something new called Speed Leadership. It does not mean speeding leaders up. What is means is for leaders to do their work in a new way, one that enables workers to complete their tasks on-time and with less effort, while eliminating the leadership errors that kill productivity and create chronic stress environments that harm employees’ physical and mental health.

After that comes the creation of standards for leadership processes, followed by methods to eliminate leadership process errors and improve leadership processes.

With Speed Leadership, you can do away with leadership competency models, which don’t work very well anyway.
